چکیده

Background Late cardiotoxicity is a known complication of anthracycline therapy. CMR is the gold standard for assessment of cardiac function, with demonstrated utility in the detection of subtle abnormalities of myocardial structure and motion. Using conventional and novel CMR techniques, we re-examined a cohort of late cancer survivors, previously studied with echocardiography in childhood. We compared them concurrently to healthy controls, aiming to characterise myocardial abnormalities in the context of longitudinal functional data.

Occult cardiotoxicity in childhood cancer survivors exposed to anthracycline therapy.

BACKGROUND More than 50% of >270 000 childhood cancer survivors in the United States have been treated with anthracyclines and are therefore at risk of developing cardiotoxicity. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) has demonstrated utility to detect diffuse interstitial fibrosis and changes in regional myocardial function. We hypothesized that CMR would identify occult cardiotoxicity characterized...

Aim: Using conventional and novel cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) techniques, we examined cardiac function in a cohort of late cancer survivors, previously studied with echocardiography in childhood. We compared to healthy controls, to characterize current state in the context of longitudinal functional data. Methods: 30 patients treated with anthracyclines in childhood and 19 matched controls...

Defining late onset occult asymptomatic cardiotoxicity in childhood cancer survivors exposed to anthracycline therapy: a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging study

Background There are over 270,000 childhood cancer survivors in the US. Of these survivors, more than 50% have been treated with anthracyclines and are at risk of developing progressive cardiotoxicity. Novel cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) techniques are now able to reliably detect diffuse myocardial fibrosis and changes in regional myocardial function. We hypothesized that these nove...

Anthracycline-Induced Cardiotoxicity in Young Cancer Patients: The Role of Carnitine.

While the increased rates of survival in childhood cancers have increased progressively in recent decades, many childhood cancer survivors will have at least one chronic health condition within 40 years of age. In this regard, cardiovascular complications have emerged as a leading cause of long-term morbidity and mortality in long-term survivors of childhood cancer, likely due to exposure to an...

A journey in anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity with emphasizing on doxorubicin: a review article

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States and has become a health problem worldwide. The reported incidence of new cancer cases is estimated at 19.3 million, with a mortality rate of 10 million in the world in 2020. There are several therapeutic approaches for cancer, including chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is consuming anti-neoplastic drugs, alone or in combination. However...
